My Story

I am a photographer and filmmaker who specializes in headshots, portraits, travel and lifestyle photography as well short narrative and commercial films. I maximize high production quality in a lean, efficient manner. Previously a Film and Media Studies major at Colorado College, I have studied at the New York Film Academy and have earned national awards from YoungArts (National Endowment for the Arts) and Scholastic. My work has been exhibited at the Pratt Manhattan Gallery, the Montclair Art Museum and the Morris Museum, and has appeared in numerous print magazines.

Ever since my 7-year-old self held an instamatic camera on the deck of a whale watching boat, I’ve been fascinated with the challenge of capturing a dynamic, 3-dimensional moment within a flat, 2-dimensional frame. For me, the challenge is not to capture a memory of an experience or a reminder of a face, but to reach through layers of surface veneer to pull from a single moment its pure energy, whether that be a fleeting smile or a rippling fin.

When I create documentary work, such as a video I made for the Cape Eleuthera Institute where I studied at the Island School, I aim not for posed shots and static settings. Rather, I strive to capture movement and spontaneity, the living spirit of a place, the passion that pulses through the individuals portrayed. Likewise, when I film promotional videos for businesses, I try to convey not only substance and information, but the unique vibrancy radiated by the staff. In my narrative work, I aim for a crisp sense of place, realism conveyed through artistry. In short, I try to convey not just what a place looks like, but what it feels like. Not just a face, but the personality behind it. I’m pretty sure I didn’t capture a single whale tail in my first attempt as a 7-year-old, but as you can see from my most recent whale photos, I’ve kept at it.

Cape Eleuthera, a place where I experienced mentorship and beauty, will always be a powerful place in my heart. Eleutheros is an ancient Greek word for ‘unrestrained freedom,’ a quality I offer you in my work.
